Mon, Jun. 16th, 2008, 03:42 pm Young People Fucking
I'd like to thank the Tories and the Canada Family Action Coalition for bringing to my attention the movie Young People Fucking. Like most Canadian movies, its marketing budget is probably around -$5, so I would certainly have never heard of it without their efforts. Yet, they responded to a palpable need and did what they had to do to promote Canadian culture. It sounds entertaining and I'm certainly going to go see it as soon as I can find a theatre that is showing it. Anyone else interested? Seriously, why do "cultural conservatives" continue to fall for this? Marilyn Manson made millions from baiting conservatives, and he simply followed a path that had been well-worn for decades by the early nineties. There must be several marketing firms who, for a fee, will arrange to have church leaders and others condemn something. Wed, May. 21st, 2008, 10:59 pm Annoyingness
#1: I got home to find out that one of the water mains on our street burst. Now they've shut off the water to our house (not sure if the whole street is affected or not). Stupid water. #2: I installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP on my Windows box. Now that computer won't boot past a second or two of the Windows XP boot screen. Stupid Windows. I'm actually in a pretty good mood though. I don't depend on my Windows computer anymore, and the water thing is an annoyance, but manageable. I'm kicking myself actually, because I've been meaning to put together a home emergency kit (including 2 litres of water per person per day), and now I could have actually used it. Woeful Lotus Notes, oh how I hate thee! Reason #43: Incomprehensible error messages. A friend (from outside the organization) sent me an email. I am trying to reply. It gives me the error "Form has been deleted". What does that mean????
Sun, Apr. 13th, 2008, 03:19 pm Dear Flickr
Dear Flickr, Why do you insist on making it so difficult to put thumbnails of multiple images on a blog page. I really have better things to do with my time then hand-hack HTML. It isn't 1995 anymore. This is the kind of issue that forces me to weigh the following two options: - waste a bunch of my time learning the Flckr API so that I can write a widget or program of some sort to do it. - find another photo site to give my money to (yes, I have a Pro account) regards,

Tue, Dec. 25th, 2007, 04:57 pm Wikipedia in action
Neil Gaiman says:I learned from Wikipedia that Sandman:The Dream Hunters was actually based on Pu Songling's Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio, which I thought I ought to read. Will report back. Moments later, on the article history for the aforementioned Wikipedia page: Removed uncited claim that seems to have surprised Gaiman about what the story is or isn't based on.

Fri, Sep. 28th, 2007, 06:16 pm Burma-Myanmar
(via madamewoo): Burma-Myanmar Genocide 2007 - an up-to-the minute blog of news on what's going on in Burma right now. btw, I was confused about the whole Burma/Myanmar thing. Apparently, the British (when it was a colony) named it Burma (or some variant thereof), and the country kept that as it's English name after it gained independence. Then the military took over and one of the things they did was rename the English name of the country to Myanmar, which seems to be much closer to the Burmese name of the country. However, many people consider the military junta to be illegal (having taken over in a coup and all) so they still call the country Burma.
Fri, Aug. 24th, 2007, 01:19 am Canadian police provocateurs pt. 2
The CBC has an article up where the Sûreté du Québec admits to sending in undercover officers. Interestingly, the article quotes the police saying: Police said the three were told to monitor protesters who were not peacefully demonstrating to prevent any violent incidents, but they were called out as undercover agents when they refused to throw objects. when, in fact, the video shows the exact opposite. They were called out as police because it looked like they were going to throw objects. Wed, Aug. 22nd, 2007, 11:03 pm Canadian police provocateurs
Via concordantnexus, a note by iclysdale about what looks to be an attempt by police to use provocateurs to incide a riot at the Montebello protests recently. There is video and photographic evidence that seems pretty solid to me. Sun, Aug. 5th, 2007, 12:48 pm NASA & Nikon

I posted this from flickr, and edited it a bit, and now it has disappeared off my friends page, though it shows up correctly when I look at my recent posts. Weird...
Sat, Jul. 7th, 2007, 05:22 pm Happy 777 Day!
That is all. Tue, Jun. 12th, 2007, 01:24 pm Crime of the century!
Check out this video from GW Bush's visit to Albania. He's working the crowd with a bunch of security dudes around him. One second, he clearly has a black watch on his left wrist. The next time you see it, it's gone. In the video, it looks an awful lot like one of the people in the crowd pulled it off his wrist and walked off with it. Of course, his spokespeople are denying it was stolen.Hurray for Schadenfreude!
